PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION OF WORK

A. Provide extruded aluminum thermally broken window frames, including glazing accommodations for:

  1. Triple glazing of exterior insulated glass units and integral interior stop for stained glass or art glass and/or:
  2. Double glazing of exterior protective glazing with integral interior stop for stained glass or art glass and/or:
  3. Single glazing of monolithic glass, insulated glass, or other substrates.

1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Drawings are based on specific types and models of aluminum windows as manufactured by the Baut Studios, Inc. Project requirements include window frames which are prepared for:

  1. Triple glazing of exterior insulated glass and interior stained glass or art glass (Series 30T and/or 45T) and/or:
  2. Double glazing of exterior protective material and interior stained glass or art glass (Series 30D and/or Series 45D) and/or:
  3. Single glazing of monolithic glass, insulated glass, or other substrates (Series 20S, 30S, and/or 45S).

B. Window frames shall be comprised of fixed areas or fixed areas with operable sections including:

  1. Hand operated project-in hopper-type ventilators.
  2. Hand operated project-out awning-type ventilators.
  3. Chain-pull project-in hopper-type ventilators.
  4. Pole operated project-in hopper-type ventilators.
  5. Crank-out casement-type ventilators.
  6. Hand operated project-out casement ventilators.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS

A. Acceptable single manufacturer of thermally broken windows for triple and/or double and/or single glazing, The Baut Studios, Inc., Swoyersville, Pennsylvania.

2.02 FRAME MATERIAL

A. Extruded aluminum 6063-T5 alloy with structural polyurethane thermal break filler.

2.03 FABRICATED COMPONENTS

A. TRIPLE GLAZING:
Thermally broken frames and ventilators for triple glazing with exterior glazing of insulated glass units and interior glazing of stained glass or art glass.

  1. The Series 30T thermally broken, triple glazed, window system will have a minimum depth of 2 7/8" with wall thickness ranging from .125 to .118 and glazing beads which are .050 thick. Glazing rebates shall be 1/2" in height. All sections shall utilize a continuous poured-in-place structural polyurethane to separate the exterior and interior metal surfaces. No hardware or fasteners shall penetrate or bridge the thermal barrier. All muntins and rails shall be tubular. Each frame shall be prepared to accept on the exterior 5/8" through 1" thick insulated glass. (Please indicate desired thickness.) Interior provision will be factory made to accept 3/16" through 1" thick art glass. (Architect specify one: leaded stained glass, 'Structural Stained GlassŪ' , or faceted glass.) All stop mechanisms shall be snap-in. Either glass shall have capability to be installed without disturbing the glass on the opposite side. All joints shall be cut to precise fit and shall be multi-fastened with stainless or non-galvanic fasteners. All meeting joints shall be factory sealed.

    Ventilators shall be hand operated project-in hopper-type, hand operated project-out awning-type, chain-pull project-in hopper-type, pole operated project-in hopper type, crank-out casement type, or hand operated project-out casement type. (Make selection) All vent corners shall be accurately mitered to precise fit, include heavy angle reinforcements, and to be screwed, clipped, and welded in their construction, or include heavy angle reinforcements, cold welding, and hydraulically crimped construction. The operable sash portion shall be tubular on all four sides and shall include dual perimeter EPDM neoprene gasketing around all four sides. Ventilators shall include stainless steel four bar hinges or stainless steel continuous hinges. White bronze hardware shall be utilized for all operators and latches. And/or:
  2. The series 45T thermally broken window system will have a minimum depth of 4 1/2" with wall thickness ranging from .125 to .118 and glazing beads which are .050 thick. Glazing rebates shall be 1/2" in height. All sections shall utilize a continuous poured-in-place structural polyurethane to separate the exterior and interior metal surfaces. No hardware or fasteners shall penetrate or bridge the thermal barrier. All muntins and rails shall be tubular. Each frame shall be prepared to accept on the exterior 5/8" through 1" thick insulated glass. (Please indicate desired thickness.) B. DOUBLE GLAZING:
Thermally broken frames and ventilators for double glazing of exterior protective glazing material and interior stained glass.

  1. The Series 30D window will have a minimum depth of 2 1/8" with wall thickness ranging from .125 to .118 and glazing beads which are .050 thick. Glazing rebates shall be 1/2" in height. All sections shall utilize a continuous poured-in-place structural polyurethane to separate the exterior and interior metal surfaces. No hardware or fasteners shall penetrate or bridge the thermal barrier. All muntins and rails shall be tubular. Each frame shall be prepared to accept on the exterior 1/8" to 3/8" thick protection glazing. (Please indicate desired thickness) Interior provision will be factory made to accept 3/16" through 1" thick art glass. (Architect specify one: leaded strained glass, 'Structural Stained GlassŪ', or faceted glass.) all stop mechanisms shall be snap-in. Either glass shall have capability to be installed without disturbing the glass on the opposite side. All joints shall be cut to precise fit and shall be multi fastened with stainless or non-galvanic fasteners. All meeting joints shall be factory sealed.

No hardware or fasteners shall penetrate or bridge the thermal barrier. All muntins and rails shall be tubular. Each frame shall be prepared to accept on the exterior 1/8" to 3/8" thick protection glazing. (Please indicate desired thickness) Interior provision will be factory made to accept 3/16" through 1" thick art glass. (Architect specify one: leaded stained glass, 'Structural Stained GlassŪ', or faceted glass.) All stop mechanisms shall be snap-in. Either glass shall have capability to be installed without disturbing the glass on the opposite side. All joints shall be cut to precise fit and shall be multi fastened with stainless or non-galvanic fasteners. All meeting joints shall be factory sealed.

C. SINGLE GLAZING:
Thermally Broken Frames and Ventilators for Single Glazing of Monolithic Glass, Insulated Glass, or Other Substrates.

  1. Series 20S, single glazed thermally broken framing system will have a minimum depth of 2" with wall thicknesses ranging from .0625 to .0935, and glazing beads which are .050 thick. Glazing rebates shall be 3/4" in height. All sections shall utilize a continuous poured-in-place structural polyurethane to separate the exterior and interior metal surfaces. No hardware or fasteners shall penetrate or bridge the thermal barrier. All muntins and rails shall be tubular. Each frame shall be prepared to accept 1/4" thick through 1 1/4" thick monolithic glass, insulated glass, or other glazing substrates. (Architect to indicate selection.) All stop mechanisms shall be snap-in. All joints shall be cut to precise fit and shall be multi fastened with stainless or non-galvanic fasteners. All meeting joints shall be factory sealed.

    Ventilators shall be hand operated project-in hopper-type, hand operated project-out awning-type, pole operated project-in hopper type ventilators, crank out casement type or hand operated project-out casement type ventilators. (Make selection) All vent corners shall be accurately mitered to precise fit, include heavy internal reinforcements, cold welding, and hydraulically crimped construction. The operable sash portion shall be tubular on all four sides and shall include dual perimeter EPDM neoprene gasketing around all four sides. Ventilators shall include stainless steel four bar hinges. White bronze hardware shall be utilized for all operators and latches. And/or:
  2. Series 30S, single glazed, thermally broken framing system will have a minimum depth of 2 7/8" with all thickness ranging from .125 to .118 and glazing beads which are .050 thick. Glazing rebates shall be 1/2" in height. All sections shall utilize a continuous poured-in-place structural polyurethane to separate the exterior and interior metal surfaces. No hardware or fasteners shall penetrate or bridge the thermal barrier. All muntins and rails shall be tubular. Each frame shall be prepared to accept 1/2" through 2 1/4" thick insulated glass or other glazing substrates. (Architect to indicate selection.) All stop mechanisms shall be snap-in. The insulated glass shall have capability to be installed from interior side or exterior side as desired. All joints shall be cut to precise fit and shall be multi fastened with stainless or non-galvanic fasteners. All meeting joints shall be factory sealed.

    Ventilators shall be hand operated project-in hopper-type, hand operated project-out awning type, chain-pull project-in hopper type, pole operated project-in hopper type, crank-out casement type, or hand operated project-out casement type. (Make selection) All vent corners shall be accurately mitered to precise fit, include heavy angle reinforcements, and to be screwed, clipped, and welded in their construction, or include heavy angle reinforcements, cold welding, and hydraulically crimped construction. No hardware or fasteners shall penetrate or bridge the thermal barrier. All muntins and rails shall be tubular. Each frame shall be prepared to accept 1/2" through 2 1/4" thick insulated or other glazing substrates. (Architect to indicate selection.) All stop mechanisms shall be snap-in. The insulated glass shall have capability to be installed from interior side or exterior side as desired. All joints shall be cut to precise fit and shall be multi fastened with stainless or non-galvanic fasteners. All meeting joints shall be factor sealed.

D. FINISHES

  1. Dark bronze class 1 color-in anodizing.
  2. Clear anodizing.
  3. White baked enamel finish.
  4. Custom fluoropolymer finishes.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 INSPECTION

A. Coordinate sizes of window openings to prepare shop drawings.

B. Field verify shapes, sizes, and custom openings and coordinate same with frame manufacturer.

3.02 INSTALLATION

A. Comply with manufacturer's specifications and recommendations for installation of window units, other components and final adjustments.

B. Set units plumb level, true to line, without warp or wrack of frames or sash.

3.03 ADJUSTMENTS AND CLEANING

A. Clean aluminum surfaces promptly after installation of windows, exercising care to avoid damage to finishes; remove excess glazing and sealant compounds, dirt and other substances; touch-up all scratches in finish or replace damaged components.
